how do i connect my tablet to tv so i can watch on...

how do i connect my tablet to tv so i can watch online media? connected via usb cord into usb slot on tv and i switched source to usb from hdmi. but the tv continues to look only @dvd player & says "no disk" it doesnt seem m to even recognize my tablet , nothing pops on screen and it continues to look for the dvd
