i need to remove a Hampton Bay ceiling fan, model C542 MP-1 (CH) PB. the canopy does not rotate. the canopy cover does not rotate - it is thin plastic and seems more likely to break than come off undamaged. home depot has the manual online for the Springview model, which looks like a similar setup, which requires the canopy cover to rotate (unscrew) to reveal hold down screws for the canopy. another user request on 1/16/2014 on this site asked the same thing for the C542 on two postings; you have a link to the manual but the link is not correct. thanks for your help!

0 the canopy cover just pops off.  there are no screws to access there and removing the cover is pointless...   next, prying on the top of the canopy proved that there is a trim ring.  this trim ring would not twist/turn as do other hampton bay fans have for me, the plastic trim piece was jammed against the inner screws.  so i applied further persuasion with a pry bar to stretch or force the plastic trim over the inner screw heads and free the piece, with minimal breakage.
