5 awesome sewing machine. first go get an air can like the type used to clean computer keyboards etc and blow the crap out of every nook and cranny then take a small stiff brush and brush out everything you can reach then blow it out again. follow that up with 3 in 1 oil or good sewing machine oil on every part that moves. wipe it down with a lint free cloth sew a foot or so on a scrap then go to www.sewusa.com to get the informantion on setting the tension on top and bottom and you should be all set!

3 hillow11....TANGLED THREAD: I had the same problem. Turned out I had not replaced the bobbin case retaining springs correctly. If you're just fiddling about with cleaning it's easy to slide them into place and it seems fine. Not so - the springs must be lifted a bit with the tip of your finger and then slide them a bit more toward the center and then release them and let them pop onto tiny pins that lock into small holes you cannot see on the backsides of the springs. The pins lock them in place securely. Missing that detail, my tread was getting twisted. Worse, my bobbin rotation was sometimes hitting on itself and locking up the whole machine. You can find manuals online for download in Acrobat PDF format. It does call for oil. The lamps are an obsolete model and hard to find. I've had one on order locally for months. You can order online for the about same cost including shipping: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/light-bulb-push-in-9v3w-x50228001.aspx

0 My mother got a Brother VX-950 sewing machine about 15 (if not more) years ago. I (her daughter) now sew and every time i use the machine, the thread gets tangled. My grandmother said that we should clean the machine because it could have a lent build-up. I looked for the manule and found out that it was thrown away. I don't have enough money to buy a new machine and the one i have is just dirty. I would appreciate it if you could give me any advice, it would be greatly appreciated thankyou for your time

0 I too have a vx-950 that was my mother's. I use it every week. I don't have a manual, but I know it's a machine that should not be oiled.

0 Does anyone know how to do the automatic buttonholes on the VX-950? I've lost my manual and it's been years since I've tried a buttonhole. In the meantime, I'll keep hunting for that very old manual. Thanks.
