Everything is plugged in correctly and the pod is ...

Everything is plugged in correctly and the pod is close to the base unit. We are receiving a not registered message. When we press the on/off button all it does is beep. how do we clear this message to use our phone? This message stays on the phone and it does not matter were we are connected.
