5 1st- grind your coffee beans! 2nd- take some of the ground coffee beans in the cup with the handle (in the picture, you can see it attached to the middle of the machine. Starting from the left side you pop it into place and twist it to the right so that the handle is in a straight line facing you. 3- then you press the main button (make sure there's a cup under where the espresso comes out), and it will start to drip out! Voila
