Vent-free gas fireplace will not respond to remote. Remote signals as though it is working, but fireplace does not respond. Fireplace will only turn on in manual mode... help!

4 I am still trying to find the programming instructions, but the fireplace itself will need fresh batteries (take out the switch for on-remote-off) it takes four AA batteries
