our Goodman 2.5 ton unit has been exposed to severe cold this week, and is now making a sound like cards in bike spokes--steady, fast clipping noise coming from fan area. It has been in the high 20;s here; not usual for this area. ANY HELP would be appreciated!

5 I guessing this is the problem and I'm not responsible for damages on your end. The noise sounds to me like the fan motor bearings are going out or fan blade maybe coming apart or badly bent, that could have been caused by ice freezing the blades in place. Go outside, turn the unit off, then use a stick to turn the fan blade and tell me if its hitting anything. If it is not, and it spins freely Use the stick to block the fan blade so it can't turn... then turn the unit back on for no more than 4 seconds...if it still makes the noise I would say it's the fan motor bearings. Hope I help. To speak with a Heating and Air Conditioning Consumer Affairs Representative from within the United States, please call 1-877-254-4729
