I have a Heat and glo smart stat II remote install...

I have a Heat and glo smart stat II remote installed over a year ago.I can't locate the manual. Lately the fire place does not respond or is slow to respond to temp settings and on/off commands. I have checked the batteries - not the issue? Thoughts?
