the unit beeped 8 times. p1 showed up. i shut off ...

the unit beeped 8 times. p1 showed up. i shut off unit several times now it seems to be working. did i do the right thing to solve this problem. also why did p1 keep showing up when i just bought this unit. it also doesn't seem to be very cold.
