How do I setup my Nikon D90 to use the opteka 500m...

How do I setup my Nikon D90 to use the opteka 500mm f8 mirror lens? Can't seem to get an image it just washes out. I installed the skylight filter to the back of the lens and attached it to the camera and set the camera to manual and that's about where I got lost
