Why does the ribbon wear on one spot. It seems to ...

Why does the ribbon wear on one spot. It seems to be properly installed. The old ribbon split, and bare. The new one has been installed as per instructions, but types the first 2 letters dark, then fades. It looks like it is wearing on one spot.
