5 I've seen this issue on a GE dishwasher. This sort of thing is why I hate electronically controlled appliances. The control board is not getting the signal that the door is open, which would reset the cycle. It's possible that replacing the latch mechanism could solve the problem, but it could be the control board itself that needs to be replaced. If that is the only issue you are having, you can try holding the start button until it resets the cycle (or whichever button cancels/resets the cycle for your machine). A minor annoyance, but a cheaper way to go.
